Using The Test Server - by Slyde
The Vanguard Test Server is available to all players to use for testing new content, game updates, and bug fixes.
If you have not used the Test Server before, do the following:
- Create a new folder named binTest in your Vanguard folder.
- Copy the contents of the Vanguard\bin folder into the new binTest folder.
- Make a copy of your Vanguard icon on the Desktop and rename it Test Server.
- Right-click that icon, select Properties, and add /testserver to the end of the Target line (it should look something like this - Target: C:\Program Files\Vanguard\Vanguard.exe /testserver
The first 2 steps should significantly reduce the time needed for the initial download of Test files.
If you are using the Default UI you can skip the following steps:
Note: use square brackets in place of the {}
- In the \binTest folder, edit the VGClient.ini file. Find the {UI} section (if there isn't one, add it after the end of the {General} section.
- Under the {UI} section, add or change ShellName=Default to ShellName=NameOfYourUI, and save the file.
- If you want to copy a character from a Live server to the Test Server, login to that character and type /copycharacter in the chat window. Characters are copied to the test server usually once a week.
Note: Using the /copycharacter command more than once acts like a toggle, and reverses the previous state.
- Run Vanguard using the new Test Server icon. It may take a while to load the current test server patches.
- At the character selection screen you can create new characters for the Test Server, or use one copied from a Live server.
- Once changes go 'Live' with a major Game Update, you may want to delete the contents of your Vanguard/binTest and Vanguard/AssetsTest folders to prepare for the next set of changes.
- You can also find information there regarding the current changes on the Test Server.
