Sartholas believes that few things in life are as enjoyable as a good hunt. Tracking and slaying ones prey is an art form that takes much discipline and patience. He believes that this discipline and patience can allow mortals to better enjoy their short lifespan. Sartholas encourages his followers to strive for perfection and not sell themselves short.
Sartholas believes that his followers should hunt down and slay their true enemies though he does not promote slaughter or killing for frivolous reasons. Only if truly wronged must one make amends by destroying the offender.
Sartholas is also worshiped by some weapon crafters who wish to create perfect hunting instruments and weapons that will strike down ones foes. Sartholas himself is said to be a great crafter of exotic yet functional weapons.
Sartholas is a quiet deity that prefers decisive action as opposed to the wagging of tongues. He is methodical and has the patience that only a deity can possibly have. Attentive to detail, this deity is always alert and ready for the unexpected.
Sartholas prefers to spend his time alone engaging in such activities as watching mortals or hunting a subset of his summonlings while on his home plane. When he does appear to mortals and other deities alike he is never expected – even if he has been watching and contemplating the matter at hand for long periods of time.
Sartholas is renowned for his patience as well as the swiftness of retribution against those who have wronged him or his followers in some way. Sartholas is called upon by those who craft weapons for the purpose of hunting, or those seeking vengeance.
Sartholas most often takes the form of a muscular humanoid wearing a hooded cloak that blends with the environment around him. Nearly all of his body is also covered in light armor and camouflage hiding his skin from view. The full form of Sartholas is almost never seen, he is almost always partially invisible or partially hidden behind objects in the environment.
Sartholas is a fairly solitary deity though he does have some friendly rivalry with other deities that enjoy the hunt. He has been known to consort with vengeful deities from time to time.
Aresha Al'Nafir (kurashasa), Qur'xa: "Sartholas may guide you along to your prey, but Kaerullun is responsible for your silver tongue."
Hunter Bhidrata (kurashasa), Qur'xa: "I know that, in time, all hunters must join Sartholas on his great expanse... but that does not truly comfort me. -- I wish to send her spirit to Sartholas, but without some fragment of her remains, I fear that may not be possible."
Acolyte Dafrond (Thestran), Tursh: "Do not kill for frivolous reasons, or the wrath of Sartholas will be upon you."
You say, "What's on your mind?"
Warchief Zowb says, "Every race reveres Sartholas. It seems that The Hunter is noted in every legend of every race."
You shrug and say, "So what does that matter to you and me?"
Warchief Zown says, "A friend of mine is taking a trip soon, and asked me to ask for Sartholas' thousand mile gaze to watch him."
You nod, saying, "Sage advice. Sartholas does protect those who leave the roads, so I'm assuming this is no trip for pleasure."
Warchief Zowb says, "Yes, it is quite dangerous. I won't go into details..."
You interrupt," I'm more interested in how you chose to ask for Sartholas' regard. No one seems to know how to revere him for certain."
Warchief Zowb agrees, "Yes, there is the blood rite, and of course the fire arrow..."
You add, "The ant bites. The burning tears. The spice blow..."
Warchief Zowb says, "Yes, yes. I think I will simply do the wind call."
You say, "That seems safe. Casting your words to the wind is said to always cause them to fall in Sartholas' ears."
You add, "His red hands are ever busy."
Warchief Zowb finishes the prayer, "Ever busy, shaping the wild, culling the weak, heed him and know that you are under his eye."
Warchief Zowb looks vacant for a moment, then says, "I saw his arrow strike the moon once, just as in legend. A streak of light in the sky, like a star falling - then a flash on the moon."
You force a chuckle and say, "I wonder what Vol Tuniel would say about using her moon for target practice!"
Warchief Zowb remains serious, and says, "If she were awake, she'd be just as worried about being on the wrong end of Sartholas' arrows, just like the rest of us."
