My girlfriend got me one of the Afterglow wired XBox 360 controllers, because using a PS3 controller on PC is a pain. Plugged it in and it works fine, but FFXI doesn't recognize the analog trigger buttons. On the PS3 controller there was a way I could make them function like normal shoulder buttons, is there any way I can do the same with this one?

The problem you have is that the analog triggers register as additional axis, not buttons. For games that officially support the 360 controller for Windows (many newer ones do, FFXI does not), the controller works exactly like it would in the 360 version of the game. When the controller isn't directly supported, however, you run into what you have - that the triggers don't act as buttons. For that you need to use third party drivers for it. XBCD would be the common one.

Alright, thanks. Is XBCD as much of a pain to set up as the PS3 controller drivers were?

I don't believe so. I haven't used it myself though.
