Because all of the houses in the new district in Kugane sold out in less than five minutes (on Ultros at least). Now I have no use at all for this stupid pile of gil.

It sold out insanely fast on ALL servers. You may still see smalls here and there or servers with ABSOLUTELY no population/people who can make gil, but Large and Mediums were gone in seconds.

I have no interest in housing, but it really is pretty insane that this is just the way it is. A lot of players really do just game for collections and pretty things, and decorating houses is also a decent incentive for crafters).

I honestly have zero sympathy for the masses of people who insist upon clinging to Balmung. Problems on Balmung are player-made problems. But yeah, these new wards sold out EVERYWHERE in a matter of minutes. Absolutely insane.

Part of what turned me off on the idea of even trying for a house, any house, not necessarily Kurogane.

It wasn't quite as bad when they released the first batch. It took a few days for some of the most expensive lots to sell. This new bunch sold in less time than it took for me to install the patch. I already have a small house in The Lavender Beds, but I really liked the look of lot 8 in the new area.

Gil just doesn't have much use in this game. I've been playing since launch, and I've casually amassed like 16 million -- and that's without banking the long hours that more hardcore players log.

I checked the new ward just to see if any houses were available. Would have bought one if I could, just for the heck of it... but none were open. It personally doesn't really affect me, because I don't really play for the purpose of glamor/decorations. Still, though, it's pretty crazy that SE hasn't come up with a better system by now.

I am simply amazed that they didn't have the plots turned off until 48-72 hours after the patch to give people time to download the flippin' thing.

I mean, your chances of landing a spot should not be directly dependent upon luck, ISP/Connection Quality, download speed, work schedule, etc.

They should have scheduled the housing opening for I would say, Sunday 3PM CST for NA Servers, so that everybody could plan ahead and have a fair chance of getting it.

But no, only the people with the ridiculously awesome internet and good luck to get on first and rush to the housing ward even stood any chance whatsoever at getting a spot.

Couldn't pass up the chance......

The best part is, the countermeasures they had in place for these specific plots..screwed over people more than a small player queue did.
