First couple duties (excluding one I did with an FC member) consisted of people rage-quitting after one or two wipes (despite the fact we had Echo), tanks not bothering to turn stances on, Main Tanks switching to DPS stance mid-fight while tanking, DPS pulling bosses before people are ready, people absolutely ignoring mechanics and then dying, healers not bothering to raise people, DPS wasting Limit Gauge in the middle of the battle before we even have 3 bars, etc...

It's just all kinds of special. And I haven't even gotten to 4-man stuff and I'm already feeling like I've had enough of that for awhile.

Thankfully, PLD and WHM did not change all that much, and the changes that did happen, I like, especially PLD which feels a lot better now, with one small exception of how slow the Oath meter builds during Shield Oath. It takes forever to get the 50 you need for Sheltron and outside of popping Bulwark, I see no way to improve it. I really don't understand why they gave Sheltron a 5 second recast when it takes you a minute+ to get enough Oath to cast it, lol.

Sword Oath, on the other hand, I'm doing Sheltrons every 20 seconds or so, with that and the fact that my main DPS is on Riot Blade->GB/RA, I can almost act as an off-healer as I have nothing else to spend MP on, and I'm almost invincible in solo play..

That sounds like the usual course I noticed even prior to 4.0 whenever I worked on my aether character lol, but I always get told I'm playing an "alternate" version of XIV, so eh guess it's DC specific. It's going to get a bit worse before things smoothen out it seems.

I know people will say "everyone is getting used to the job changes!" but I'm noticing people acting like SE got rid of stuff you've been doing for the past 4 years (as in, the basics haven't changed, tanks still are expected to hold aggro and healers expected to cure >.>) I expect nothing out of SAM and RDMs right now, but I expect people to do a bit better than they are doing lol, the first true progression in SB was needless to say..rough especially with so few people even ABLE to get past one MSQ, and for the wrong reasons.

So congestion aside, I enjoy that some of the large NM fates give actual useful stuff, like music which made me a nice bit of money (sold 4 for 720k before it tanked.)

Leveled rdm to 52 in POtD. I like the job's foundation... stopped playing to work on a freelance article that I otherwise won't have time to finish this weekend (and that's after taking today off just to get some early access playtime).... but I like what I've seen so far.

My one complaint is similar to the earlier one in the OP. I really like the rdm's balance guage, but I feel like it takes too long to fill up. That might change though once I'm doing more traditional battles, and I can cast more easily without needing to run around so much... but in PoTD, it's hard to even get casts off before some mobs die.

Haven't done any dungeons on paladin yet, but I could totally see your point about gauge speed not really making sense with Sheltron's recast.

Feels good for Stormblood to finally be here though! And I'm glad to have another job that I'm truly excited about leveling.

@Theonehio: yeah, learning a new job doesn't suddenly make you forget that you shouldn't stand in junk, or that you should kill certain mobs in certain order, or the boss does (x thing).

Though I suppose, if someone's overwhelmed by the changes in their job, they should spend a little time outside the dungeon and get at least somewhat comfortable with their new rotation so that they are not tunnel-visioned on their hotbar.

That's what I did -- I took PLD out to outside Castrum Oriens and killed some Lv60 mobs there because my chocobo challenge was 51/100 and I thought I'd finish that and get the feel of the new stuff at the same time.

THEN, I went into a dungeon and I already had my hotbars configured, a decent grasp on what I was supposed to do, etc.

Admittedly I only got to play for a few minutes so far, which I mostly spent rearranging my HUD and hotbars, but I'm really not sold on the new job gauges. Some of them are nice. I like having BotD time more visible, but others, like the Aertherflow gauge I wish I could disable. I don't need giant glowing pink diamonds in the middle of my screen reminding me about my Aetherflow stacks. I'd be perfectly happy to have the tiny icon back on my buff list.

You can disable them in character configuration.

You know, they REALLY need a system where if you get DC'd, it saves your spot on the server so you don't have to wait for a queue to log on.

Earlier, I got DC'd... tried to log back on, had to wait 5 minutes for a 500 player queue. When the queue was up, I got the loading screen followed by that 92001 or whatever that error is, and I got DC'd again, booted back to the title screen.

Go back in.... another 500 player queue.

Seriously.

They could at least, maybe, 3 minutes the server saves you a spot if you DC. If you actually log out willingly, then don't, but if you get DC'd, you shouldn't have to wait through the queue to get back on. WoW did this kind of thing and it just felt better.

Wound up giving up (my apologies to that poor FC person who needed their FSoF), as I didn't want to spend the next God-knows-how-long waiting in queues only to get booted off again.

Well this is insane. I tried entering the initial SAM duty, and got disconnected while it tried to load. Now I can't even log back in because I keep getting error 90002. You'd think if the instance server was full it would just send you back out when it timed out, not boot you from the game entirely.

Edit: Now it won't even load my character. Just says "Unable to obtain character data due to server congestion."

Did the devs seriously learn nothing from the 2.0 and 3.0 launches? How did they not see this coming?

You'd think every major online gaming release would know by now, Kar. :P

But yeah, it's usually safe to figure launch days and the next few after will be dumpster fires. Not much we can do about it until devs decide they can't skimp on servers and/or better figure out how to handle projected loads.

Well, as I've said on the o-boards, there's only so much the devs can do with the ridiculous number of people.

They can only install so much hardware, they can only buy so much bandwidth.

There comes the time when the playerbase needs to realize this, and if the servers are congested, people need to realize that there's just nothing that can be done, and they need to be willing to just come back later instead of continuing to clog stuff up.

That and people need to STOP Making alts on lower population servers when their mains aren't accessible. These people make everything worse on everybody else. In fact, I'd say there needs to be character creation restrictions to stop this behavior.

It's not like they have any serious plans on actually leveling up these alts and making them their mains, they're just going to clog up the server, maybe troll in one of the main cities and/or whine and moan about their problems on their main server all the while, clogging up connections for everybody else.

I would have believed that but this seems more like either an oversight or deliberate.

1. RDM and SAM had the same issue, but they fixed it.

2. The quest after has the same problem despite FAR less people doing it, I'm currently stuck on the quest about 20 minutes after because of 'congestion.'

So yoshida always repeated "don't rush blah blah", so programming error possibility aside, it's could very well be a purposeful bottleneck to prevent people from 'capping' out in Early Access.

But yes, its a datacenter wide problem, but the playerbase is a very interesting one.

Well, ya, because they know that obviously a lot of people are going to want to play for 72 hours straight doing nothing but Final Fantasy XIV and there'll be people passing out, or even dying like some people in Korea have done. They obviously don't want that.

Hio, people on the OFs are saying the bottleneck issue is solved on JP and EU servers... do you know if this is true?

Was always the issue being on Balmung, logging in with the release of anything becomes a pain. That being said, I see where SE is coming from, they're not going to change everything for the week or two that things are out of hand. Things taper off pretty quickly once the shiny wears off.

Once I'm through with Persona 5, this will be a good pick up for the summer time.

I wouldn't say solved on JP DC - It's more like people organized better for example making a line. It's not AS bad I would say. I tried on Balmung, people formed a line but you still had a ton of people crowding around spamming raubahn and pippin, so the line/organization method was pointless there.

I think the disconnects issues were solved on JP DC at least lol, but there's the whole susanoo bug that some are getting now..

Was it really so hard to see congestion coming and plan for it? It's not like it hasn't happened before. All they really need to do is implement a simple queue system. You pick up your number and you get the option to start the instance when it's your turn. They already do that for the the daily roulettes. It wouldn't have taken much effort to copy that system over to the story instances.

On a secondary *****, I don't see the point at all of the DRG gauge. It literally does the same thing that the icon used to do, except now it sucks up a two inch chunk of the screen.

On a positive note, one of the more awesome people on Ultros is helping out a bit. They managed to get passed the congestion and have a two seated mount. They've started ferrying people over to the other other aetheryte in the Fringes. It's not much, but at least it's something.

The main scenario plot diverges and I continued on in other cities without doing Rauban fight until server numbers dropped.

For maybe an hour of side quests. The vast majority of content is locked behind the instance that nobody can get into.

Fun story, I decided to stop trying and go try out SAM and RDM. I farmed up the materials and made all of the accessories I needed and tried out both jobs for a bit. When I got comfortable with SAM, I decided to try out the quest to fight the old man...and DC'd and now I have a 500 person queue.

Seriously, f*ck you SE.

And now I'm stuck again. Queued up for trial roulette and the game bounced me during the loading screen. Now I'm completely stuck. After waiting in the queue to log back in, it immediately kicks me back out because it keeps trying to send me back into the failed instance. This has been going on for almost 30 minutes now.

Edit: Yeah, it's been an hour now and I still can't log in because the game keeps trying to load me into a dead instance, and failing. **** this ****.

Largely why I'm 67 on my main and avoiding finishing the MSQ because there's also a russian roulette with Susanoo if you'll get tossed into the terrain on exit and thus client force crashing.

Someone in my FC was having that problem and managed to get around it by flushing their DNS. If you're on PC you should be able to try it and see if it helps:

- Open a command prompt
- ipconfig /flushdns
