The Stormblood benchmark program is out, in case you'd like to know if your computer that's been running ARR and HW this whole time is up to the task of continuing to do that. Ok it's stupid, but the trailer is still cool.

Benchmark download

If you just want to watch the trailer, that's here.

I got 9546 on max settings with FFXI running on the other monitor because logging back in to that is too much work for something this pointless.

NB: The character creator puts you in MNK gear

Are they actually changing anything that you need better hardware to run the game after SB is released?

I do 60 FPS most of the time, though sometimes I do drop down to 40s in certain places.

EDIT: Yeeeah, 1.9GB... I'll pass on that. That would take forever for me to DL.

I think they're bumping up some graphical limits along with dropping the PS3 support. I know the minimum requirements went up a little, but my gaming PC was built specifically so that I wouldn't have to read nonsense like that.

Cool trailer though Smiley: smile

I'd say the benchmark is mainly for publicity, though SB will certainly bring in another wave of new players who'll genuinely want to use it.

Not seeing much change from the previous benchmark, but there might be some slight graphical upgrades.

Score: 10604
Average Frame Rate: 73.049

That's with a Core i5-3570k oc'd to 4.2ghz, 8gb Ram and crossfire HD7950's. I haven't upgraded/touched anything since the previous benchmark. I do love it when games actually run well in SLI/Crossfire.

13,263 on max settings at 1920*1080. Which is a bit of an improvement over my HW score. Though, I've completely rebuilt my PC since then.

As a side not, while I was highly pissed to see my 25mbit plan go up in price yet again, my decision to just upgrade to the 200mbit plan was worth it. Hell, Comcast jacked up the price of the 25mbit plan so much that it didn't make sense to not just spend the extra twelve bucks a month. It took less than a minute to download the benchmark.

I wonder if paying Comcast more money would make my internet problem go away.

Perhaps I should change my name to Netflix Smiley: glare

I'm also on the 25mbit plan.

How much is it over there, or you just in a rural area? It's about 80$ CDN/month here for 150 down, 10 up. Ya, after having this, I just can't go back. Downloading that file in less than 5mins and most games within 30 mins is definitely worth it.

Well...

The problems I have with ISP is a combination of location and...... family issues. And the only alternative being Comcast which I am.. hesitant on as well.

Right now, I'm on Windstream and we're paying $200 USD per month for satellite/phone/3mbit internet which I feel is way too high. I think the internet alone is like $40 or $50 or something like that.

I think Comcast offers 100-200Mbit for $60-70 a month, but yet... again, family issues. I would be wanting to try it, but another family member is wholly against it, because of what a 3rd family member watches on TV all the time blah blah blah... so we end up doing nothing and I'm still overpaying by a ridiculous amount for incredibly slow internet while they continue to quibble over stuff.

Damn, that does sound steep. We pay 175$ tax in for Internet, Cable and home phone. That being said, we are in a village with enough homes to have proper services. Now, we don't have our cellphones included in that bill, but we each pay 25$/month for basic talk/text, so I suppose 225$ total for everything.

Trying to convince the wife to get rid of the home phone entirely, but she won't budge on that one.

You should. It's amazing. The only problem is that you can never be without your phone, but for most people that's already a reality.

Smiley: eek

Are you getting your service from actual intergalactic aliens? That is a ludicrous amount of money to be spending especially for such a tiny amount of bandwidth. Also does your connection cut out when it gets cloudy? I'm actually curious. I don't know anyone who has satellite internet. But I'd imagine it'd be weather-dependent.

Is it possible to find this show somewhere else? Hulu perhaps? Amazon Prime? You might look into it. If it's seriously the only reason you're allowing these people to bend you over like that, it's worth looking in to.

Nono, I don't have Satellite internet, I have DSL internet. We have Satellite for TV. I should have specified that, lol.

It is actually super-stable, like 99.999% uptime which is one of the few reasons I'd be hesitant to switch, because I know that Comcast has had like 2-3 outages this year so far (they have it where I work) and I've only had like 1 that was like 5-10 minutes in length, lol.

Outages aren't really a super common thing here. I don't know where you are so maybe the Comcast infrastructure there is made of baling wire and duct tape, but around here I think I've had 1... maybe 2 outages in the last couple years. And none have lasted longer than a couple hours. Sometimes if there's some really awful storm or something a switch will go down, but that's an extraordinary event.

Hmm, my old 25mbit plan when I first signed up for it about ten years ago cost $49.99. It has steadily crept up over the years to $74.95 a month. After the last time the upped the rate, I started looking at alternatives. Sadly, there really aren't any where I live. It's Comcast or satellite, and satellite just isn't fast enough for my needs. That's when I saw that Comcast has a 200mbit plan for $87.95 a month. The price difference is so small that I I couldn't come up with any sane reason not to upgrade (other than giving Comcast more of my money, of course).

I did have to buy a new modem to take full advantage of the higher speeds though, the old one capped out at 160mbit. I actually get a good bit more than 200mbit most of the time. I was downloading PlayerUnknown's Battlegrounds (which I suck at) the other day and was getting a bit over 300mbit.

While I will freely ***** and moan about Comcast exploiting the fact that they essentially have a monopoly on high speed internet in my area, I will give them credit where it's due. I have never once had an outage that was not caused by a hardware problem on my end. The last time I had any issues at all was when a lightening storm fried my modem and router, and while I would love to blame that on Comcast, I'm fairly certain that they don't control the weather...yet.

Also, in some states Comcast has a data cap, but not in Pennsylvania. So, I can grind through as much data as I want and they can't really do much about it.

Oh, hey. A fellow Pennsylvanian. Hello! lol

RE: Callinon:

I think the outages are more something having to do with the fact that we (my workplace) is a business, and I think they have a separate "thing" for businesses. Not sure about that, but I asked the boss's wife once about their stability and she said "maybe once or twice a year" that they have outages... but yet the store itself gets outages a bit more often than that.

That, or the outages are just that much more noticeable, because the credit/debit card machines go through there and when the internet connection goes down, it sucks.

That, and... well, I don't really know if it is Comcast or the Credit/Debit network, lol. So maybe they don't have that many outages. I know a few actually were Comcast (one of them, the modem blew)..

Yeah, my little shop lost internet more often than was entirely reasonable too. Credits, debits, tickets... everything. Then I'd go back and look at the modem and it's just happily blinking away as though nothing is wrong. Power cycle it... WOULDYALOOKATTHAT the internet is down.

I don't know if Comcast routinely just puts businesses on crappier lanes on purpose or what, but yeah it seems to be a thing.

But then just go to one of your many alternatives! Oh wait.. that's right... boned.

Mac versions are usually an afterthought to try and rope in a few extra bucks from those people who insist on buying computers from a company that is well-known to scr*w you over on purpose to make every penny they can.

EDIT: This guy pretty much sums up why Apple (as a company) needs to die.

I repair computers, though I can probably count the number of macs I've repaired on one hand. They just don't come up that much.... AND NOW I KNOW WHY.

Had to pick my jaw up when he started talking about soldered-on SSDs and RAM. That's just insane. And batteries attached with adhesive? Come on.

The very first laptop I ever opened was an Asus. And boy did my education on laptop repair happen fast with that one. Asus is the only manufacturer I've ever seen attach their keyboards with glue. Oh there are screws in them too, but they're also attached with large amounts of adhesive attaching them to the palmrest. THAT WAS SURE FUN. Very first laptop.. I have to replace a fan assembly, and I'm standing there terrified I'm about to break this keyboard in two.

But this... this is a whole other level. Who doesn't replace a battery? Batteries are the very definition of a time-limited component.

I know, right? They're right up there with Console manufacturers, trying to make everything proprietary and special so the end-user cannot repair them or take them to a 3rd party repair shop.

See, the PCs I build at home... if a fan goes in it, or a RAM stick, or even the CPU... I can buy just that part and replace it.

But then again, my PCs tend to last well over 5 years, with only needing an occasional part here-and-there. The last time I ever had a major failure in a PC was almost 10 years ago, and it was a PSU and it was my own stupidity that caused its downfall, lol.

This was when bottom-mount PSUs started hitting the scene, and the case I had bought was a bottom-mount. Before, I had only done top-mounts. The case had this convenient little vent on the bottom where you could turn the PSU so that the 2nd vent pointed down to blow the air out of the case or what-not... well I didn't know that this would eventually cause the PSU to overheat a few months later and basically fry the thing, lol.

Now, I mount the PSUs with the vent pointing up towards the rest of the innards so that its exhaust will merge with the rest of the airflow and get blown out the back and top of the PC. Lesson learned, albeit at the cost of about $50.

Other than that, though, other than the occasional case fan wearing out, or needing a new CPU cooler because the old one got clogged, my PCs last for years, because...

A). I don't have a third-party manufacturer purposefully making stuff cheaply so that they break,
B). I can open up a case and make simple repairs like fans,
C). I pick&choose my own parts and I only buy quality brands I know are good.
D). I'm able to open my case anytime I want to get rid of clogs, dust, etc.

Can't understand why people would want to buy a box that you're not even allowed to open. That's a huge "NOPE!" for me. Can't open it = no deal.
