Thinking of Returning, But...Follow

Hey everyone. It's been a while. I cut right to the chase. By the way, trying to find something out on the official Forums... well, I just wonder who made the bonehead decision to only allow current subscribers to log in. How are people wanting to try or return supposed to get the exact info they want without scouring through tons of irrelevant info? Well, with that out of the way, now I'll get to the meat.

I'm thinking about picking this up again, but one thing will be the deciding factor, more than likely. Last time I quit, it was due to the tedium of doing Levequests over and over and over again, just to get about 2 xp towards the 100,000+ you needed for the next level of one of your secondary classes. Have they added any content to help smooth out the tedium of trying to level your secondary classes? I'm not one for mindless grinding of mobs or running dungeons ad nauseam, as long as I've got a healthy pool of content or quests (I now, artificial entertainment) to choose from, I'll be set. Thanks for the guidance. :)

Not really. Leveling after your first job is still one of this game's weakest aspects I'm afraid. Story's good, leveling off-main jobs isn't.

You can do a combination of levequests, FATEs, and dungeons to level your other jobs. The challenge log provides some weekly exp bonuses for doing those things. Once you get access to the Vanu Vanu tribe, you can do their daily quests at any level 50+ and the quest will scale to that level, but that's only like 6 quests per day.

Meh, that's disappointing to hear. Pretty much the same as when I left. I may come back for a bit and see if it can pull me back in, but not sure how long I'll stay. Thanks for the reply, Callinon, and good to see ya again. :)

I had very little trouble leveling a second job, but I could see it getting pretty boring beyond that.

I've got 3 DoM jobs to 60 and it really didn't take much time IMO. But then again I like running dungeons or at least running the daily roulettes. That plus weekly Challenge Log, Fates, Levequests, daily/weekly hunts, beastman dailies. Getting all 60 DoH & DoL was a bit of a grind however. :p

Yea end game has not changed much... I am still paying for the game but have not logged in in a while. Thinking of dropping my sub till something that is actually new comes out.

I have been playing FFXI in between.

Lots and lots of dungeon grinding. If that's not your thing it won't be long til you get bored.

It really depends how hard you want to go at it.

I did a combination of dungeons, FATE grinding and quests (I didn't do all of them as I took my first job to 60).

If you haven't yet made the journey from 50-60, something that would definitely help is to not do any sidequests as you take your first job to 60. Then, you can do all those sidequests on your second trek to 60, which makes things more interesting.

I actually didn't do a single leve when leveling up my second job... had I been bored enough, I would have considered it though. There are also new levequests that give massive amounts of exp in exchange for like 10 allowances. They're not really worth it if you're a hardcore grinder, but if you don't grind heavily on leves, then they're worthwhile.

I actually needed most of those sidequests to reach the main story level requirements. Especially after about 56 or so when the main story gives you like 3 quests and then says "ok go gain another two million exp, we'll just wait here." Apparently I was supposed to take multiple breaks from what is, frankly, a really good story to grind dungeons and FATEs.

I really wish the leveling game in FFXIV were better, but it's just not. Virtually every MMO I've played has done it better.

If you don't do the sidequests, then you'll have to grind some dungeons but it isn't really that bad. The Heavensward dungeons are all actually pretty fun.

Also, you get a significant EXP bonus after taking your first job to 60, and you can also get exp on your high-level job now while doing the low-level roulette, which adds some nice variety. The game has reached a point where it has a ton of old dungeons, and it's fun going back and revisiting that content.

Hmmm, funny thing is, I installed the client and logged in to find that I have two days of play time. Not sure what that is from, but I'm not arguing. Will help me assess whether I want to get back into it or not.

UPDATE: Okay, that time ran out, but upon trying to pay for renewal, SE keeps rejecting my payment. :| I swear, it's almost like this company is actively trying to turn away customers and go out of business.

Do you happen to use Firefox with noscript? They have some sort of Ghostlight payment service that doesn't show up on Noscript to actually allow/unallow when the page is loaded, but Noscript will block.

I tried updating my payment method (new card at end of year) and failed twice in a row. Turned off Noscript temporarily, and it went through no problem.

No, I use Google Chrome. I haven't tried with a different browser. That's an interesting idea. Not sure if it'll help in the future, but might not hurt to try. I hate to have to live out the rest of my life with this game relying on purchasing time cards from their store and entering it on the Station. For one, you don't get the multi-month discount with time cards. It really sucks.
