To be fair, Savage Alex one STARTS with a nasty DPS check, and continues to have harsh checks the more you go up. So the design of it itself is very harsh for inviting new people. Part of the reason I dislike the Savage system entirely.

Early days of CoP had its own participation difficulties. Typically you needed someone with experience to get that done and the difficulty,(part of which was getting there) even after the first couple of nerfs, was as such that most did not want to.

It was so bad that people pressured one another into specific set ups just to clear story content. Sorry, but that was terrible.

100% correct i finished all cop missions in the first week or two of their patches hitting and what you said is spot on, however i wasnt gonna lvl a job or subjob that i was only gonna use for those missions and never touch again. So what did i do? By that time the game was a year old so i had made plenty of friends throughout the journey (easy to do in a game that forces you to play with others and spend hours grinding for one level, instead of 90% solo then random matchmaking you with a party full of ppl who are usually not even on your server, so youll never see em again after that dungeon) THEN when you hit endgame which some dont have duty finder, cant be soloed, yet ironically expects you to have friends to do em with despite the game beforehand being designed specifically around not needing any) so i got 5 other friends (none of which were nin /nin or smn) and we acted under the mentality that SE didnt design content that only specific jobs could do so were gonna figure out strats (which was my job) that would work for us and our setup even if it meant we had to do a fight 600 times before we got it done.

Was it MUCH harder for us? Yes, did we spend more gil? Yes (i know i spent 200k per fight attempt), but in the end we didnt back fown, give up, lvl new jobs to make it easier, or get rid of ppl/finf a better group to get it done, and in the end we won, we srarted together and ended together, and that experience and lvl of bonding is why i will ALWAYS say FFXI is better than 14 (until 14 can replicate it) too bad XIVs community cant be more like that

Name ONE time in ffxi history where ppl refused to do something with someone whos never done it before?

When I picked up the game for the XBOX in 2006, was leveling blue mage, needed sea access (which means I needed to beat CoP) and for two months, every day, I got crickets.

K, back on topic, here is my update.

Valkayree wrote:

1. Level Warrior - Nearly at 58, hoping that he is at least 59 by next Thursday.
2. Cap Esoterics. I might buy warrior axe and coat at some point. Might.
3. Keep eyes open for a Ramuh farm.
4. Run A1-A3, get last spring and two bolts to finish up caster.

1. I am slow. 1 million from 59.
2. Did this last week, will get it again this week. Still haven't bought anything. Have maybe 1k saved. Torn between war, drg, smn. Regretting eso I spent on paladin atm.
3. Heart has not been into it.
4. I did get the last spring and two bolts so now the caster is at 189 and I have no clue what I'll be getting this week. I guess bard stuff...

Playing pretty lightly these days. Spending time on other games that have been building up in my Steam Library of Shame. Currently Mass Effect (I know... I'm a little late to that party).

This week I'll cap esoterics and continue to work on getting my combat jobs to 51. I'd really like the high-level roulette dungeons to give exp, please.

LTW and ALC are both 59 currently. They'll probably be 60 by the end of the week.

Finished Mass Effect. Started on ME2. Sudden existence of ammo is bugging me but I'll probably get over it.

I'll cap esoterics just like every week. Like Valk though, I'm not sure what to spend them on. I'm pretty much done with buying things for NIN. So I guess BLM? I don't know.

LTW and ALC are 60. So that's 4/8 crafting classes.

I finally met two goals I set a month ago: MCH hit 40 last night, and all my crafts are at least 55.

Once 30 Days of Glamour is over, I won't have to spend an hour each day making an outfit and taking screenshots.

Hoping for a busy and rewarding week in Eorzea:

Verdha plans to get ARM to 50 this week, and start on one of the last two non-50 crafting jobs. This is really limited by Leve allowance refresh at present. Also get BRD and DRG to 34, unlock NIN and get it to 34 too. She's started to shift back into the MSQ progression too -- she just hit Idyllshire last night -- and slowly easing up her healer jobs. All retainers are currently limited by character job levels (except the MNK60, of course), and it would be nice to slip a level on each of those to get that moving again.

Waenlona desperately needs more gil, but not spending on crafting should help that soon. She too will also move forward on MSQ if for no other reason than to upgrade gear she can't afford. WVR is almost at 50 now to cross-class Careful Synthesis II in other crafts, but she'll probably hold off on those other crafts until gil builds back up. She needs to pick back up on FSH, that should be fun.

A pretty good week, all in all:

Verdha has ARM50, CUL will follow shortly (currently 41) when leve allowances catch up; BRD and DRG at 34, NIN at 33 with 95% hand-made H!Q gear sets. Craft class quests done through the HW level 50 ones for the three fully-geared classes (Leather, Weaver, Goldsmith). BLM 50 HW quest done, now at level 51.

Waen spent a ton of time RPing, and now has WVR at 50 with full HQ Patricians set (unmelded), and therefore unlocked dye crafting (yay! that was getting expensive). FSH picked up a level or two as well, level 54 job quests done on SCH and WHM. Still low on gil, but at least in the high 5 digits now instead of the 3 digits she was down to at one point. Oh, and Chocobo rank 11, waiting until she can afford another Onion to take it up towards 12.
