Hello my fellow zam posters! Was just seeking some advice from you guys regarding gamepad use in ffxiv. Coming from FFXI on ps2 (my first MMO) I have always been more comfortable playing on a playstation remote control. Since beginning my MMO experience with FFXIV (my second MMO game) I have stuck with a gamepad the entire time. However, I have had exceedingly greater and greater difficulty with the lifespan of the ps3 remotes I use. I have gone through 3-4 ps3 remotes so far and I dont understand why. PS3 in my experience aren't native to PC use in general which is why I have had to use programs like the DS3 tool I use to use or the XBOX accessory program im using now. In the beginning the remote is fine and has no problems but as time passes it begins to go heywire. For example, anytime I want to lock on to a target and push in L3 the controller goes nuts and starts turning through a bunch of skill pages on the corss bar or makes me jump randomly, switch targets, or turn in circles etc for the span of about 7-10seconds which as you know can really mess with my rotation and dps output as a dps job. Eventually it gets to the point where the remote control comes on but wont connect to either a console or the pc its hooked up to even if you reset it from the back by pushing the very small black button with a pin. So I was wondering if you guys know of a way to either fix the issue thats causing the remote program within the controler to become useless or maybe suggest another non expensive gaming remote I could use to play FFXIV.

TLDR; PS3 gamepads keep becoming useless after extended use on the pc-- I was wondering if you guys know of a way to either fix the issue thats causing the remote program within the controler to become useless or maybe suggest another non expensive gaming remote I could use to play FFXIV.

Thanks in advance :)

I use this one:

http://www.amazon.com/Logitech-940-000110-Gamepad-F310/dp/B003VAHYQY/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1437051595&sr=8-1&keywords=logitech+controller

Cheap and does the trick. Only complaint I have about it is the shoulder buttons could be a touch more comfortable. That being said, I paid 15$ for it, can't complain about it a whole lot.

I think there's 3-4 versions of this controller, each a little more expensive adding little features here and there.

Xbox 360 controllers are the most versatile and supported controller. People say xbox controllers are a better fit for big hands, but my fiance has small hands and swears there is no more perfect fit. Below is a cheap one(24 bucks at walmart) that works perfect with FFXIV. However if you play other pc games without native controller support. It is best to get the offiical xbox 360 controller so the guide button is map-able. Pinnacle Profiler is the best emulator in my opinion because it has cursor memory for menu navigation.

TLDR: I have never had an issue with a 360 controller on PC.

Honestly...for the value I would go for Xbox 360 or Xbox One.

Or one of these:

I am still looking for a good wireless Bluetooth gamepad for PC. Preferably rechargeable. They aren't easy to find. Wired options are plentiful. Microsoft doesn't support the wireless features of the XBox controllers. The Logitech wireless isn't rechargeable. The PS4 while arguably the best controller requires some expensive stuff to get it working. Someone design a good one and I'll buy it.

By all means share your set-up procedure and 3rd party program you used to get it set-up. Everything I've read on Microsoft forums indicates they don't current support wireless connections to PC and won't offer adapters until the fall. I'd really prefer to connect via my existing Bluetooth dongles rather than having to purchase some additional adapter.

After a decade of playing FFXI with a PS2 controller, I have found that I simply can't get used to the Xbox ones.

What the **** is the deal with the left analog stick being way the **** up there?

I definitely prefer the shape and feel of the playstation-style controllers. The thing about Xbox controllers that I can never wrap my brain around though is the way the face buttons are laid out. From years and years of playing games on a SNES, every time an Xbox game (or Xbox controller-sensitive PC game) tells me to push Y or something I have to think about it for a second to figure out which button that is. X is especially bad this way because over my gaming life X has literally been in every possible position on a controller I've held.

The buttons can at least be reconfigured as you see fit.

But you kinda can't just move the analog stick back to where it's supposed to be...

Apparently the Xbox one controllers are actually quite comfortable. I agree though, the xbox and the 360 controllers were atrocious for me. PS4 right now is definitely my favorite, so hopefully it eventually gets mimicked into some cheap 20$ controllers much like the ps3 has.

Ah, I misunderstood. The controller is wireless but it does have a USB dongle.

I'm not saying take a 360 controller and use it on your PC, they actually make a PC specific 360 controller.

Found it:

https://www.microsoft.com/hardware/en-ca/p/xbox-360-wireless-controller-for-windows

Edit: Ok that one says windows 8. The one I have is being used on a Windows 7 PC. Literally plug in, wait the 15 seconds for windows to install the driver and go.

Best controller you can get it at frys electronics or Walmart.

Been using it for a long time and its pretty sturdy and works.

I use a Rock Candy PS3 wireless controller. It comes with a Bluetooth dongle that is supported by Windows (7, 8,10) Works fine on ffxiv. It uses batteries, but I always have a charged set of NiMH AA cells ,
