3.0 - 3.5
Rinse and Repeat 2.0 - 2.5 style
**** goes dowm and Shinryu knocks your airship into the horizon
crash land in the middle of the ocean
swim to azeroth a new land.

What I'm expecting to lead into 4.0.

Seriously though, the 2.x plot does feel disjointed, especially if you don't do coil which seems to honestly be the real story..a lot of 2.0 feels like the "it's just a dream" kind of thing, given the whole time jump.

The video under the spoiler tag above has HUGE spoilers for those who haven't beat final coil, but is hands down the best summary of the T1-T13 storyline that I have ever seen. Even has a British dude narrating, which always seems to make things more "official". Its quite funny as well, it even talks about how everyone was shameful for triggering the enrage timer in T2, and talks about skipping mobs and trampolining in T3. If you beat final coil and skipped all the cutscenes like me, or just don't mind spoilers, check it out, its worth it.

While I did enjoy the story I cant help but agree with this. The plot does feel disjointed. The different plots that tie each patch to the next just doesnt hit it for me. I wish I could put my finger on it but there is just something to the storeytelling that isnt the same to me as past FFs. I recognize this is an MMO but I expect SE and an FF title whether MMO or not to give me a really good story. If XI can do it I know XIV can with todays technology and talent.

Idk what it is about the story that makes me feel this way. Just off the top of my head the entry and exit of Raubahn's trusted advisor Eline Roaille in... What? 1 patch or half a patch..? Something like that. I guess my biggest issue here is that there isnt enough character development. Roaille was there and gone quick. But when you talk to minfilia a little later she stated something to the nature of "I'm surprised, Roaille always seemed to be serious about taking back Ala Mhigo and never struck me as a traitor..." something to that sort. Yet I myself never had that feeling because I never once saw her except in that patch alone. Or that of Moenbryda for 1 sole patch I believe. There to make us a weapon and then gone in an instant. I was really just beginning to love her character and what she brought to the table. I thoroughly enjoyed how she just loooved Urianger. You could really feel it as she couldnt hold back her strength as a solid Roegadyn when she hugged him and picked him up off of his feet. The strength of her love and character was equal to that of the strength of her axe if not greater. But for what all I have said this was only fleshed out in 1 patch and a half I believe? I dont know.. Maybe I'm just expecting too much from an FF MMO. Maybe not.. It's almost like I cant care for these characters or am not given enough time to because I dont see them enough or even know they exist.

Dont get me wrong I really enjoy XIV. 2.55 has renewed my hope that maybe in HW I can expect some amazing things to take place that will really pull at the heart strings. Whether its to anger, sadness, or happiness. For instance, when Wilred was murdered, I genuinely cared because he had development as a character that was somewhat perceivable. At first being a restless youth who brings about a plan, although a misguided plan, to elevate his people and begin the process of taking back their land-- to a considerably more wiser youth who has learned to harness/focus his energy towards learning and being the best crystal brave he can be. So tragic. He was an honest young man with a bright future.. I just don't find this type of storytelling throughout the entire game.. Come on SE, you've made characters I WANT to care about now give me a reason to care about them.. Surely you can take some of the successes of 2.0's story and find a way to incorporate that into the entirety of 3.0 to 4.0 in a meaningful way. I'll probably get down voted for it but this is just my true feelings on the subject. But I'm hopeful for 3.0 and will continue to be an active sub.

I actually felt the same way. I was like "who are these people?!" throughout a lot of the storyline, because the patches were kind of spread out and 2.55 was a looooong time since I did 1-50.

Then I leveled an alt.

Then it all came together.

Laurentius, the CB who frames you in 2.55, was the guy you caught smuggling plans to the Garleans in Buscaroon's Druthers at level TWENTY THREE. He said he was going to confess his crimes and turn himself in and stuff, and at the time you are an innocent cinnamon bun and believe him. Nope. ******* ran away, and got recruited into the CB under his resume as a "former Wood Wailer."

The NPC who was the traitor that you mentioned? She's hanging out with Raubahn when you meet him at level 15. She's a background character then, gives NO hint that she's anything but a totally loyal second in command.

The characters are there - their stories just don't get told all at once. And when Alphinaud had it all come crashing down on his head in 2.55, I had to applaud SE for a lot of masterful trolling for nearly two years. Everything seemed too easy? That's because it was.

Yeah I have to agree with this. Only reason I noticed Wilred and others was because i leveled 2 other alts. But for the person who only levels one character they may miss out on these things. Seems like they are hiding the characters and the story lol. But I guess I could just chalk some of it up to me not paying enough attention to things outside of cutscenes. I'll do better with heavensward now that I know how the story operates. I'll take better note of who is standing around and such.

I honestly can't praise the story at all. While the ARR part is serviceable (still riddled by too many detours though) but enjoyable, the patch writing is simply awful. The player can see things in plain sight while the player character cannot. People act incredibly stupid all the time. Certain scenes that are meant to be emotional simply don't work because the characters didn't appear for enough time.
Also, the Ascians are "hahaha"-type villains, without anything interesting goin on, save for their obsession with Sagittarian (Zodiark in the localization).
I did remember those characters that reapperead afterwards. But I don't think their re-inclusion was that clever. To quote, again, XI, with all its shortcomings and odd choices, had an entire quest line that tied into the main mission storyline (I'm talking about the S.O.Bs. quests and the Windurst missions), that was far better, IMO.
Don't get me started on the "shocking" finale of ARR, which is really bad fanfiction.
What worries for me is that for HS they'll just sweep all the lingering questions left from ARR (not to mention the ones created by the localization team while handling dragons) under the rug and focus entirely on the war.

The only time I would agree with this is how easily we fell into detouring right before the banquet. How stupid and whipped can you be?
