Hey gang. Just finished getting my pally to ilvl 110. Now that I have both tank classes geared, I want to turn my guns on a dps class. I really have no idea which one I should play. Any thoughts?
Ranged or mele? Do you like to be at close quarters or from afar?
BLM - Large nukes, restrictions on movement - the dark side
SMN - DOTS and a little pet to help you
BRD - support but can deal out the dmg while on the move
NIN - New kid on the block - highest damage I have seen in game so far
MNK can hold its own up close and personal but lots of positional stuff to consider to do max dmg
DRG - Not up as close but some big spikes if you do it right.
Really hard for people to help you choose as it depends on so many factors about you and what you like.

you already got one, turn defiance off on you war and equip dps jewelry. Get some dps cross class like blood for blood ect and switch back to marauder. Do your best on fights that require 2 tanks but only really need one. I heard NIN really likes Storm's eye debuff.
AND only do all the with close friends, it's fun.
Joking aside, I've only leveled MNK, anyone can dps, but I feel like mnk has more self sustaining moves that reduce stress on the healer in case you ***** up and take hate or step in aoe. Mantra is a nice courtesy as well to other players to help recover quick from a massive all party hit.
I've heard that if you like to play drunk, you can do BRD just fine and nobody will notice.
In the end, level em all a little bit to get cross class abilities and see which one strikes your fancy while you are at it.

Your mages love you (Foe's Requiem), your healers think you are great (Mage's Ballad), and your meele think you are the greatest thing since ninja goad (Army's Paeon). You have three Dot's at your disposal, about 5 buffs, some off GCD special attacks (a backflip and a silence move) and the rotation basically involves keeping straight shot up to help proc bloodletter and keep your crit rate at nearly 30%. Its more complex than blm, but still fairly easy and doesn't really care about position. Also play this job if you have a slow connection, since being on the move without sacrificing dps can help you dodge aoe.
I've played some ninja, it is definitely strong. But who knows what the nerf will bring?

A lot of the dps classes benefit from cross class skills. If you're interested in maximizing your character's dps potential, it probably helps to give them all a try to get the skills (or at least the ones up to level 15 or so) and then pick the one you like the best.

If you're looking for your dps job to be something you can relax with, then I'd probably look at a ranged dps job. If nothing else, there's less dodging out of red circles/cones involved!

Bard is probably the easiest of the DPS, because you get all the benefits of ranged attack like BLM, with all the benefits of continuing to do damage while moving like the melee classes.
That said, there is something really satisfying about the huge numbers on black mage. A free cast Fire III crit for 2000+ damage is simply beautiful. Bard can't quite put out those same numbers, but it's fun in its own way.

I would like to piggyback on this topic & ask about dragoon. I just came back from a long break. Used to main dragoon & have the relic almost caught up to start the new upgrades. I know it just got buffed, but was it enough to put it up there with monk or ninja? I am very tempted to switch my main to either of those. I enjoy all 3 jobs equally, so I'm now just trying to pick the "safest" one to move forward with.
Any feedback is appreciated. Are all three equal enough now & wanted for endgame?

If you already have a good rotation you should be doing 450+ dps in Final Coil as well, so the buff helped but it's still on you. NIN/MNK just has far more utility so they're still better (good ones that is.)
The classes will never be equal simply due to the fact MNK/NIN have native speed boosts and if you, as a drg, sacrifice crit/det for speed you'll further hinder yourself.

*hypothetical* If you already had a monk/nin in your group with one spot left & 3 equally skilled players of each job wanting to join, which would you choose? If its only monk or ninja, which is most useful & which would you rather be stuck with two of?

If it's equal skill and I know the DPS checks will be met in Final Coil, I'd take the DRG for the sake of not hindering the LB, whereas having double NIN could also rotate Trick Attack Bonus..so it is a toss up, but it's up to the group at the time.

As a disclaimer, please note that I am a Dragoon for a static group, and while I do have other classes I can shift to, my group typically hinges on me being the primary melee DPS, regardless of my class choice. So my spot as a Dragoon is secure. Take what I say with this in mind.
On the matter of your question: Short answer? Yes. Long answer, while it needed a buff, it wasn't consequential to begin with unless you were pushing for world firsts.
At peaks for each class, you were looking at about at total of 40 DPS difference on top DPS - Your average player is not going to notice that. The biggest concern was the abysmally low magical resistance, which was a major factor in Third Coil, where magic Damage quickly scaled and made a major difference in Dragoon's suitability verses other classes.
That said, most people are still attempting to clear Second Coil and when classes are over-geared for content, the differences at peak performances are negligible.
Now, execution problems, and defensive issues of the class are non-existent. The lingering issue left is the lack of utility for the class as Ninja and Monk offer superior each.
All this said, my recommendation to you is to play what appeals to you most. Performance matters in MMOs are most often fluid, and 'changing mains' based off of how good or bad a class is alone will most often force you to change again next time your class ends up not being in favor of the following patch for whatever reason.
Thanks to this patch, we have arguments that Dragoon has been made too effective for the effort, so you should be ok if you still want to play it.

Thanks for the feedback. I decided to roll with my monk as my main.
