Escort Leves; Quick Exp 10-35Follow

My little exp guide for using up those leve allowances on your DoW/DoM jobs:

Why?
-Because the exp is quick and better than most FATEs at your level, and you could burn through 100 leve allowances in about 3 hours. That's about 8 levels in the 25-35 range, more than 10 levels in the 10-20 range, plus a chunk of gil and crap to sell.

How?
-Accept the leve from the levemate, go to the starting point and start it with a +4 difficulty. You can start a leve 5 levels below it's base level, so you can do level 15+4 leves at level 10, etc. If you are over the level of your leve, you take a big hit to reward exp so the level 15 leves are acceptable from 10-19, but once you hit 15 you are better off with the level 20's.
-It takes a few seconds then a green circle will show up where you need to take the escort, make sure you know where you are going before you take off.
-Target the escort hit your beckon macro, and run like hell to the end point. If you are close to max range when you start the macro, you might outrun the escort and get a "too far away" message during one of the later beckons. I normally start at about half spell casting range.

What macro?
-I use two macros, the first simply marks the escort with a square, "/mk square <t>"
-2nd macro is:
Quote:
/target <square>
/beckon motion
/wait 4
/beckon motion
/wait 4
/beckon motion
/wait 4
/beckon motion
/wait 4
/beckon motion
/wait 4
/beckon motion
/wait 4
/beckon motion

-Note that "/beckon <square>" or anything like that doesn't work, emotes only use the PC/NPC you are currently targeting.
Count to 7 emotes, hit the macro a 2nd time when the 7th happens.

Why the two macros?
-A treasure chest can pop on the route. When this happens, I can open it without losing stride.

What's the catch?
-A few aggro mobs spawn when you initiate the quest, but they are easy to avoid. 1-4 mobs will spawn during your trip and chase after you.

OMG a wanted monster popped, what do I do?
-Run around it. If you stop and kill the two mobs chasing you that are 5 levels above you, plus the big baddie that is even harder, you get about a 10% boost to your reward exp. Not worth it.

Where?
-Level 10-14 Camp Drybone - The Missing Merchant. Escort from the bridge back to camp. Don't follow the path; hang a right around the rocks on the north to avoid the mobs.
-Level 10-14 Aleport - Barley Legal. Escort from Aleport to Skull Valley. Mobs spawn on the path, watch your compass and you can avoid them easily.
-Level 10-14 Skull Valley - Tail in Tow. Opposite of the above.
-Level 15-19 Moraby Drydocks - Man the Ore. Escort from camp to that outpost on the river to the NE. Again veer right, through the tunnel, and be careful not to outrun the escort.
-Level 15-19 Quarrymill - It's Hard Being Moogle. Escort from camp through the west canyon. Avoid the path, stay to the right yet again, then drop down in the middle of the canyon. Don't go too far right or you will run into redbellies.
-Level 20-24 Quarrymill - Rope a 'Lope. Escort from the other side of the goblin camp back to camp. Make sure you avoid the goblins, and also the FATE that spawns right there.
-Level 25-34 Costa del Sol - Clearing Steer. Incredibly easy, bee line to the end.
-Level 25-34 Camp Tranquil - Woodcross Busydeal. Escort from south of camp, heading north to the bridge. This one is tricky; there are level 30 birds at the end point plus a level 32 morbol spawns in front of you right at the end.
-Full list of escort (Sympathy) leves

Why didn't you include all the leves from that link?
-The Law Won and The Transporter are not repeatable; you do them once to unlock that levemate.
-A Guest for Supper sucks compared to the other three 15's; mobs will catch you every time.
-Run, Run Away I only tried once, and there was a thm mob that raped me before I even got halfway.
-The escorts at 35+ run at half speed. The lost lamb always did, the ones at wineport and bluefog were recently changed to, and I'm assuming the others do as well

Why isn't my leve available at the levemate?
-There are about 6 repeatable leves for each level from each levemate, and only 4 are available to you at any given time.
-When you collect a leve reward, all offered leves from all levemates will change. It normally cycles, so your escort leve will go 4>3>2>1>NA>NA>4, but it sometimes hiccups and goes random.
-The easiest way around this is to do a couple escorts somewhere else, possibly on a job in a different range. You can also accept and hold on to different escort leves until your current one isn't offered.

I used to love "One of our naturalists is missing" for level 40 something in Mor Dhona because it was literally fifteen feet that you had to bring the guy with 2 or 3 mobs on your tail. Since the last update, they threw in about 10 mobs (both fate spawned and some just existing in the world) so it makes it significantly harder to get exp.

Wonderful guide. Did you collect most of this information post 2.15? Like Valk, I've found some of the escourt leves to be very difficult later on if you want to use this method. If this takes into account the escourt 'buff', I could definitely make use of it!

Thank you for posting it!

This is from post 2.1, when they upped the exp for battlecraft leves.

In 2.15, they changed them so that:

In battlecraft escort leves, emotes used to guide NPCs will now be effective from longer range. To preserve game balance in light of this, the difficulty of the following guildleves has been increased.
Wonder Wine / Little Lost Lamb / Someone's in the Doghouse / Pets Are Family Too / One of Our Naturalists is Missing

Today, as a level 15 archer, I did an escort leve from camp drybone and from Moraby Drydocks and received the same amount of experience for both.

Awesome. :) So it still seems effective.

I would have to warn against the Mor Dhona FATE, though...the NPC usually ends up dead depending on the job you play. If you're a healer you can simply heal the NPC to get aggro from all the enemies chasing him (WHM is great for this with holy). If you're another job that doesn't have cross class cure, well...good luck! :P

OK, this may be a stupid question, but...

How do you stop yourself facing the target every time you /beckon? I tried turning off the face target when doing action, and that had no effect. Running is a pain if you have to turn back around every time you /beckon.

Tag the emote to one of your buttons and spam the heck out of it as you are running. Your screen will be filled with text, but you wont turn around to beckon.

Usse mouse run, holding right click + left click makes you move, and you will auto return to the direction you were facing prior to the macro.

It's your settings, if you have the issue you are either playing in first person or have the camera set to standard setting.

To change from standard setting, go to character configuration and select legacy type.

Did you pick +4 difficulty for both, or just the level 10?

I don't have all the numbers, but I remember the level 25+4 giving ~6700 at level 24, then the 30+4 giving ~9300 at level 25.

I did a few earlier today, level 20+4 moogle escort gave 6099, 25+4 rope gave 6284, both at level 21.

You take a hit for being well below the suggested level, just like FATEs, but it's more exp than one under level from my experience.

Used this all yesterday to grind LNC from 26 to 34. Was quite effective but then again, that escourt leve in Costa hasn't changed much.

That macro helps a ton.

I can still run the Mohr Dohna quest in under 60 seconds if I start with the NPC, but my concern is that it will be considered exploiting to bypass the mobs (which can still be easily done if the fate is not up). Instead of running the north end, you run south, and you can just shoot straight up to finish it. If you aggro any additional mobs to the spawns, you will still only risk the NPC getting hit twice (he can survive ~4 AoE hits).

There is also the ability to kite the mobs to one side when you start, then double back, grab the NPC before the mobs fully reposition, and you can again, from the south run straight up. Oddly, you want to pull them to the north above the NPC, then run the NPC south of them.

Yeah, I run north and south as well.. But I also just find that doing the daily roulette + two runs of Dzmael Darkhold will get me from 49-50. But that is only faster if you are a tank and don't have to wait on that queue.

I made an updated macro after 2.16. In 2.16 they added the syntax <wait.'number"> (ie <wait.5> to cause a 5 second wait). With this syntax, you no longer need a seperate line for the wait. This allows for more /beckons. I've made the following macro:

Quote:
/target <square>
/beckon motion <wait.4>
/beckon motion <wait.4>
/beckon motion <wait.4>
/beckon motion <wait.4>
/beckon motion <wait.4>
/beckon motion <wait.4>
/beckon motion <wait.4>
/beckon motion <wait.4>
/beckon motion <wait.4>
/beckon motion <wait.4>
/beckon motion <wait.4>
/beckon motion <wait.4>
/beckon motion <wait.4>
/beckon motion <wait.4>

This give you 14 /beckon instead of the previous 7. In most cases, this should be enough to complete the quest and prevent the need to have to count and hit the macro again.

THIS IS TERRIBLE ADVICE!!!! Ok, it might be good advice for South Shroud. But the one in Costa Del Sol is, as of 2.4, practically impossible for a lvl 25. There are multiple mobs that spawn on the path. I burnt about 10 leve allowances convincing myself that the op's "super easy" comment was in fact false. There are however two very easy and fast leves in Costa. The one in which you pick up pages of the Necronomicon ;), and the one in which you rescue bottles of wine. Just run past mobs, pick up five things and you're done. Faster than any escort leve I've seen. -the pages one you gotta kill a monster at the end. This macro is a little wonky too, with the need for the escort to be stationary in order to progress; I think it's a bit less cumbersome to just hotbar the beckon and use when necessary, but that's me.

They fixed this in another patch(2.3 maybe) so it's not as easy as when this post was originally made.

I dont know, i always avoided escort leves like the plague. Anoying, took too much time, and the escortees were squishy and stood in nearly all of the AoE's if something came up from behind them.

I always loved the ones where you had to pick up stuff. It wasnt till i found out that monsters return to their spot in leves as wel if you run far enough away. To name an example, Costa has one where you pick up 5 bottles on the beach, they're all in a straight line, and it takes a few seconds before the monsters become agressive upon spawning, so you can pick all of them up in 20 seconds and warp back to the levequest representative that gave it to you. 30-35 have been mij most favorite and fast levels ever.
