Turbine should put the type of crafting right on the item description.
User suggestion:
Use these items as soon as you collect them or sell them on AH because Turbine will change the use to more difficult items later and make your investment in bank space a worthless exercize.

Actually they are still used in crafting. I just made a simple horn (woodworking) and this was needed for the recipe.
