I have played Holy Paladin in raid since TBC. I've been thinking about benching it.

Now let me say this, our numbers are fine for WoD, we will be behind Druids & Holy Priests, but still competitive. While Disc are now viable tank healers & druids have a spec that proves strong for tank healing, Paladins will always have a raid slot for tank healing. Double beacons, Hand of Sac, and Devo Aura all help. We definitely aren't in a poor place in terms of numbers or cd's.

Where we are poor is gameplay.

- Holy Light, Flash of Light & Word of Glory are effectively the same spell & heal for the same amount.
- Holy Radiance & Light of Dawn are the same spell.
- We are a turret, probably in the most literal sense since TBC.
- our healing is balanced around our tier set which isn't fully available until 2015 and leaves issues further down the pipe.

So, why not go Druids who are the strongest and probably have the most flexibility in spec or Priests who will always be strong regardless of time? On a side note, Shamans are just as archaic as Holy Paladin. Mistweavers are blast to play, but are now the official bench class for healers due to broken mastery, complete lack of utility compared to other healers and a number of other of fundamental game play issues.

If it is not a balance issue, but rather a gameplay issue which will not be addressed during the life cycle of WoD, then I would be dumb to keep playing my paladin. However its like fuuuuuu..... I don't want to give him up cause I am a sentimental ****. Thoughts?

I feel your pain. A class with an uninteresting rotation gets old really fast. Especially since you're planning to raid. Luckily my main was always something that was fun and/or interesting to play during my active periods. But when playing an alt at maxlevel I often wondered why people were playing this spec as their main.

On the other hand, I could never switch mains now, since I am a horrible title/mount/pet ***** and there are at least some of those on my priest that are NOT accountwide.

I have no idea how Shadow plays on the PTR, but my fingers are crossed to not run into a similar scenario when 6.0 goes live.

Hey I'm here with you.
Sounds like Frost DK is going to be a lot slower and kind of boring. This leaves me with playing a different spec, or changing class. I've not main-ed my Hunter in years...

A Couple of my specs (that I've seen thusfar) I don't think I like the sounds of:

1). Arms Warrior. I must be one weird guy to have loved MoP Arms. You had lots of stuff to do, you weren't waiting on Rage for everything (I LOVED the idea of BUILDING rage with some of my attacks and then dumping it when I desired). Last I heard from the Beta, it is VERY auto-attack heavy waiting on rage before you can do everything, which is riiiiiiiight back to where it was in TBC, when I hated the class most.

2). Arcane Mage. Seriously, they removed the ONLY Self-Heal they had and didn't compensate whatsoever? Nice, Blizz, nice. Protip: Sitting your b*tt down on the ground to eat was never fun or engaging gameplay; just ask Vanilla/TBC Rogues and Warriors. "Don't get hit!" yeah, that's kinda hard when they also removed some other spells, and you didn't always have room to blink around the place to stay away from enemies. You are going to get hit, and that is final. But you have no way to actually heal back the damage you took...... except by eating. They could have changed this in the last couple passes of class "balance", but last I heard they didn't seem to have any plans on giving a self-sustainability ability to Arcane.

Well, on the plus side for you Lyr, those two specs are simming out to be top 5 dps in mythic (if I recall). It is definitely odd though to see DPS classes that are placing well but concerned that the actual rotation is just completely uninteresting.

We are still going to be raiding going into 6.02, so I will get some raid time in with my main and get a feel. So I have some time to see how I feel about it.

Healing wise you will probably want Priest, Druid, Shaman & Paladin, then probably a 5th when required that is priest or druid. For Mythic all healers should probably be able to OS DPS at a high level based on what is needed. I talked to the heal officer and they would take me as whatever as long as I played well. However we have a strong Druid/Sham/Priest. So it makes sense for me to stay holy, though Disc Priest and Druids are both strong tank healers right now. Though having a 580 ret set to level with will probably clinch it.

Fuuu.... we will see.

Well, thing is, I don't plan on going anywhere near Mythic; I don't have a raiding guild and probably never will; my RL schedule is far too busy for that. I might dip my toes into Flex, but I'm afraid that all the Raid Browser groups will be "MUST HAVE [insert ridiculous I-level here] AND ACHIEVES!" and I won't be able to do any anyways (that's why I don't like the LFR loot nerfs; LFR is probably the only way I'm gonna see any of the content whatsoever).

I'm more concerned about what these classes feel like solo, and again, the flaws I mentioned above are what I'm worried about most.

I've dipped my toes into the water with healing easy heroics in MoP, but I never liked healing in WoW much because of the 100%-20%-100%-20%-100% crap that we've had the last few expansions where you're machinegunning heals and if you pause for a second, the tank is dead. I don't like that kind of stress.

HOWEVER.....

They promise to give us more even healing curve AND I've been playing FFXIV lately (I haven't played WoW in a few months). In FFXIV, I've been maining a White Mage (healer, obviously) and I've gotten used to healing 4-man groups, and did a few 8mans as well. I like healing in FFXIV; it is the slower kind of healing that Blizz is describing WoD should be, so maybe I'll enjoy WoW healing for a change.

I have all classes on Lv90 right now on both Horde and Alliance except for Alliance Warlock (all geared up to at least 520, some further), so I can play anything (I'll need time to learn specs I've never touched, but otherwise the opportunities are all there).

Ret Paladin, though, is what it looks like I will freaking LOVE. I just watched Preach's video about Retadins earlier today and I was like "Holy sh*t that looks fun!" where you're constantly firing procs and you're not tapping your fingers on the desk waiting for something to do. It also helps that my current mains are Ret Paladins, and that is my "default class" that I always fall back to, to do my main stuff. I dabble in other stuff, but at the end of the day, I come back to kick some serious b*tt with glowing wings.
