Bestowal

You have found a plaque bearing the strange runes of Falgeirr Twisttongue, author of the papers you found in Katub-zahar. When translated, they read as follows:

I can sizzle like bacon; I am made with an egg,
I have plenty of backbone, but lack a good leg,
I peel layers like onions, but still remain whole,
I can be long, like a flag-pole, yet fit in a small holes.
What am I?

Background

Falgeirr Twisttongue was a dwarf with a perchant for riddles. He left messages for his descendants in his personal papers, which you found in the library of the Great Delving.
