If you want a bird that does things like that be prepared for a very high maintenance pet that will demand a lot of your attention.

If you put it in a cage and forget about it it won't be doing things like that, in fact it will develop mental disorders and not be much of a good pet at all. It may even develop self destructive behaviour (isolated birds will often self mutilate) Birds are highly social creatures and need a lot of interaction to be healthy and happy. They are absolutely NOT a good animal for someone with limited time.

Oh yeah, birds are very noisy and highly destructive also.

On that note, birds poop a lot, too. Another thing to be prepared for.

As an owner of birds, many different species, I can say some birds are more intelligent and require more interaction. Cockatiels are actually a great first bird since they aren't smart enough to manipulate you. Large parrots have the intelligence of 3-4 year old children (look up Dr. Irene Pepperburg's studies)with the emotional needs of a 1-2 year old. Bascially its like having a toddler that never grows up. An example of this is how after watching me once my cockatoo learned to open the lock on the cage so I used the key provided. One day when I forgot she opened it and tossed the key somewhere so now I need to use a chain I wrap around and pad lock. After watching me do that she started messing with the chain to stop me from locking it. To stay one step ahead of her I had to teach her to help me wrap the chain. Now we are both happy since I hand her the chain she pulls it into the cage and lets it go and I pick it up and pull it back through. She now enjoys being locked in her cage as a game.

Cockatiels won't give you that much trouble. They are happy if taken out every day. My birds are potty trained, ie go on command, which takes time but worth it. They need interaction daily and if worked with aren't destructive (my birds are trained so they will leave something alone when I say no)if their chewing is channeled ( I have chewing items to give if they start chewing something inapproriate).

Bottom line is educate yourself before deciding if a bird is the right pet for you.

One time we had a parakeet and my sister took the cage outside so it could get some fresh air. For some strange reason, when she lifted the cage to bring it back inside, the bottom part of the cage stayed on the ground. The parakeet flew under the cage and out the bottom and into a pine tree. That was 15 years ago, but if you live in East Texas and see a green parakeet in a tree, then this is why. If you can catch it, then be careful it will peck your fingers...but it doesn't sing though. Poops alot from what I remember.

Also if you want to see an elephant flying around, there is a movie that you can watch about it, but I can't remember what it's called.
