Hunter

Description

'He was a great hunter, but he vowed to chase no wild beast while there was an Orc left in Rohan.' - The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King, "Appendix A"

Woodsman, pathfinder, and master of the bow, the keen-eyed Hunter can use her arrows to devastating effect from a distance. Archery is not the only thing the Hunter excels at, for she can lead her companions through the forest at greater speed than they could on their own, and can set up traps to ambush enemies. The archer is no close-quarters fighter, however, and would generally rather let her bow do the work than resort to her sword.

The Hunter will be the class of choice for players who enjoy striking a target at range. Clever by nature, the Hunter is known to lure her targets into traps to hinder them, giving her time to use her bow to deadly effect. A Hunter's knowledge of nature also provides skills that help her and her fellows survive in the wild. A Hunter's combat style depends on her ability to injure others while staying out of harm's way.

Skills

  • Quick Shot: Allows the Hunter to nock and loose an arrow quickly.
  • Set Trap: The Hunter's survival skills enable him to lay traps to ensnare enemies.
  • Purge Poison: The Hunter's survival lore allows him to use naturally-occurring medicines to purge poisons from an ally.
  • Barbed Arrow: The Hunter's arrow causes a wound that bleeds and slightly slows movement speed.
  • Swift Bow: Loose two missiles in rapid succession.
  • Rain of Arrows: The Hunter rains five arrows down upon his enemies, allowing him to hit multiple targets.
  • Penetrating Shot: An extremely damaging shot that is able to pierce the armour of an enemy, ignoring 10% of its mitigation.
  • Merciful Shot: When an enemy falls to 50% of its health or lower, this shot inflicts massive damage.
  • Swift Stroke: A fast, damaging melee attack.

Traits

  • True Shot: The Hunter's Penetrating Shot pierces more deeply through an enemy's armour, ignoring more of the armour's damage mitigation.
  • Hail of Arrows: The Hunter has a greater chance of landing Critical Hits with his Rain of Arrows.

Hunters in LOTRO do not get pets.

I have had this game 3 months now, and tried all the class avialable, and found the hunter the most enjoyable class to play.
As far as a WoW comparison, I would say it's more like the, Mage than the, Hunter... there like a hybrid, you can fight o.k melee and you use ranged attacks/slows/traps/speed/tracking. What is similar to, Mage is the fact you rely more on ranged attacks, and can be used up close, with a similar casting bar, which is decresed everytime you are struck. You have no pet! and area porting skills become avialble later.
Their not an easy class to play, and you may die a few times, but when you start getting the skills and equip, you realy erase some evil lol.
I am an Elf. I never tried the others with, Hunter but it seemed a logical choice because of the Agi+.
What I use for my main stat+ on equip, is AGI as main priority. basicaly the INT of LoTR without the the power/mana+ and an evasive bonus. then vitality, for Morale/health+ and Might for STR and physical DMG reduction. the rest are just bonus stats to me. I don't mind sacrificing some armour point's for a nice AGI+ item but obviously I change it if too out-dated.If you play right you won't get hit to much anyway. You may say no power/Mana+ or Will on LoTR. I don't have much Will+ and I never run out of power, and it seems to regen fast enough for me.and to me hitting hard and taking ok damage is more important. With traps I can take out orange mobs. and have taken elites out that are not to low for my lv. they don't, like it when you pull large numbers of mobs though, so pulling well is a good part of it.
I took forester, it made sense too.. you can make you're bows and money through it. Wood will sell well in AH/Aution house. 50 stack of the lowest grade Rowan wood will sell for 120/200s max and with the Wood tracking abilty you can collect alot, while making you're way around, Middle earth. Also boiling leather and selling them can make good money also, as armoursmith needs those and cannot boil. always be sure to check the prices of the resources before you mark the price though, as servers may vary. You can also Farm, vegitables which can be sold in a similar fashion, though at this present time I don't do much farming.
They can level fast aswell due to the fact they deal good damage over distance.
Overal I find there the most enjoyable.

Quick question...

Im pretty new to LOTRO, and from playin WoW for the past few years, wondered if Hunters get pets in LOTRO?

BTW, it should be obvious, but don't make a dwarf hunter. Dwarves have a huge AGI penalty, and yes, someone out there will say they love their dwarf hunter, but to me it's like starting in a hole. The dwarven bonuses don't make up for the missed shots and lower ranged dps imo. Hunters are all about nailing the target and missed shots get you killed. I guess that's why I use precision stance all the time, I hardly ever miss.

No pets for hunters, Lore-masters and Champions get the pets in LOTRO. Also with 3 levels of armor vs. 4 in WoW, hunters get medium/leather, no mail.

This is a pure dps class with the goal of dropping target before it reaches you. Traps provide some cc, and melee dps isn't all that bad. Low-cut provides a way to slow multiple attackers for either escape or distance to shoot. You can shoot at point blank range, unlike WoW, but there is a chance of being interupted. Also, hunters have a group escape, (instant cast), that will port the entire group, (fellowship), to the nearest rez location. If you like the hunter in WoW, you'll love it in LOTRO, and no pet to feed/train. One more sweet bonus, hunters can run 15% faster, like aspect of cheetah, but no stun when hit. Hunters can also learn multiple hearth locations at higher levels. Overall, a sweet class! I've been leveling with another hunter and we've been able to do some of the group quests with just the 2 of us dps-ing away.

So... any other hunters around? :) Lets talk about hunters! I'd love to hear complaints, hints and more from you all.

I've noticed that my man hunter doesn't give as much damage as I'd like.

Man seems to be omitted from the list of possible choices of race. I"m pretty sure that is an oversight, as I'm sure I rolled a Hunter from Gondor during the stress test.
